Belonging by Jeannie Baker (Paperback) by Jeannie Baker
A powerful wordless account of the greening, year by year, of a typical urban landscape.
As in the author's previous picture book, Window, this book is observed through the window of a house in a typical urban neighbourhood, each picture showing a year's developments. This is Window in reverse, with the land being reclaimed from built-up concrete to a gradual greening, shown through the artist's characteristic collage illustrations.
- An impressive conservationist work with a hopeful message.
- Winner of the 2005 Wilderness Society Award for Children's Literature, Picture Book category. A 2005 Notable Book by the American Library Association.
- Belonging is the companion to Window.
About The Author
Since 1972, Jeannie Baker has been making her collages, many of which are designed to illustrate picture books, but stand individually as works of art. Her collages are created from many rich textures, including earth, knitted wool and feathers, which, combined with more usual artists materials, achieve a wonderful three dimensional illusion. Internationally renowned, her work has garnered critical and public acclaim in Australia and abroad. Jeannie was born in England but has lived in Sydney for many years.
