Kids Helmets

A useful kids helmet shortlist begins with a soft tape measure. Colour and design can wait until the child's current head circumference has been matched to the size ranges on the helmets that may fit.

My Playroom's collection brings together Micro and CoConuts kids helmets with different stated ranges, buckles and adjustment systems. That makes the collection useful for a measured comparison, but it does not create one universal size chart: the exact helmet's current information remains the source for its size and approved activity.

Measure Before You Read the Size Label

Head circumference is more useful than an age label because children of the same age can need different sizes. Manufacturer guidance for current Micro helmets places the tape across the forehead where the helmet will sit and around the furthest point at the back of the head.

  1. Use a soft tape measure around the full circumference of the head in centimetres.
  2. Keep the tape level and comfortably firm, then repeat the measurement to check the result.
  3. Compare that number with the stated range for the exact helmet and follow that maker's fitting directions.

Measure with the hairstyle normally worn for riding. An older measurement or a broad toddler helmet label should not replace the current number.

A Size Range Is a Shortlist, Not a Fit Guarantee

A head measurement that falls inside a stated range identifies a possible size. The helmet still has to be fitted as directed and remain in the intended position. Buying well above the current measurement for future growth can leave the present fit unresolved.

An adjustment system can fine-tune a helmet within its own range. It does not turn a shell outside that range into the correct size. When a measurement sits near a boundary, use the exact product guidance and assess the relevant options rather than assuming that larger is automatically better.

The Current Range Uses Different Adjustment Systems

Adjustment changes how the fitting routine is managed. Current CoConuts pages describe magnetic buckles and rear spin dials. Some Micro designs also use magnetic buckles and spin dials, while current Classic Micro models use a classic clip buckle with an adjustable chin strap.

One system is not automatically right for every family. The useful question is whether the supervising adult can understand and repeat the full fitting process for that design. Buckles and straps are part of the setup, not a way to compensate for an unsuitable size range.

This is where shopping the My Playroom range offers more than a list of colours. Families can compare the measured size options and the way each fitting system works within the same riding collection before style becomes the final choice.

Match the Helmet to Its Approved Activity

A kids bike helmet should be used only for activities named in its product or manufacturer guidance. Some current models are described for bike and scooter use, with skating included on others. Similar appearance does not extend those statements to every helmet in the collection.

Standards and activity statements are product-specific. My Playroom therefore keeps this guidance focused on measurement, fitting system and stated use, with the exact model information deciding the final purchase.

FAQs for Kids Helmet

Can age tell me which kids helmet size to buy?
Age can be a browsing cue, but it cannot replace current head circumference. Measure first, then use the stated range and fitting directions for the exact helmet.
Can the same kids bike helmet be used for a scooter?
Only when the specific helmet is approved for both activities. Use the activity wording and fitting instructions for that model rather than assuming every helmet covers the same uses.
